Hemlock Happening 2025

The much-loved annual family event packed with entertainment, activities, and community spirit is back this year! This free-entry event promises a fantastic day out for all ages and will also form part of marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day this year.

Gin and Gaslight at the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum

Friday 9 May 2025, 7pm – 9pm, The D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum, Eastwood, NG16 3AW.

Tickets are on sale for the extremely popular Gin and Gaslight events! Guests will have the chance to learn about and sample a variety of gins, experiencing a taste of Victorian luxury while exploring this award-winning museum at night fall.

Victorian hosts will greet the guests with an aperitif, before experiencing all the historic rooms the Museum has to offer by gaslight, creating a magical experience for all in attendance. While it is not a requirement, turning up in Victorian costume is encouraged!

Sri Thurkkai Amman Temple Chariot Festival

Sunday 13 April 2025, 11am, 10a West Crescent, Beeston, Nottingham NG9 1QE

Sri Thurkkai Amman Temple‘s 21 foot tall Chariot

The Sri Thurkkai Amman Temple’s annual Hindu Festival starts on Saturday 5 April and will end with a Chariot Festival on Sunday 13 April, and everyone is invited!

The Festival’s penultimate day, on Sunday 13 April sees the 21 foot chariot paraded around the town. The procession will leave the temple’s West Crescent home at 11am accompanied by drummers, classical dancing and priests chanting Sanskrit.

Charity Duck Race 2025

Saturday 19 April 2025, 12pm – 3pm, Manor Park, Toton, NG9 6FB

Spectators watching rubber ducks racing down the river

The Duck Race, which has become a Toton tradition, is managed by Church Wilne Rotary and Age UK this year.

The event will open from 12pm where you will be able to enjoy family friendly entertainment, delicious food stalls including hot and cold drinks, and a Tombola with special prizes.

The first race will commence at 1pm, whereby numbered rubber ducks are released into the River Erewash from the bridge at the end of Carrfield Avenue to race downstream to the finish line at the next bridge.

If you would like to get involved in the race, you can buy a numbered duck on the day, or using the link below, tickets are £1.50 per duck, with prizes for the winners! All money raised will be collected by Church Wilne Rotary and distributed to Age UK and local community projects.

Get down to Attenborough Nature Reserve for this free entry celebration and support local crafters at their nature-inspired craft fair, featuring a handpicked selection of stalls showcasing handmade, wildlife-themed creations.

Moth Trapping and Interactive Demonstrations – Discover these fascinating night-time pollinators and learn how to get involved.

Pond Dipping in the Nature Garden – See what critters lurk beneath the water! Free activity sheets and equipment provided, run by their amazing volunteers.

Paul Dyson Art Exhibition – Explore the stunning wildlife-inspired artwork of local artist Paul Dyson in the Conference Room.

Swarovski Optics Demo Day – Meet the expert in-house Optics Consultant to discuss everything optics! They also stock Hawke, Viking, Zeiss and Kowa, offering expert advice on all brands.

Eastwood Macular Society Support Group

Tuesday April 29 2025, 10.30am – 12pm, Eastwood Town Council, 120C Nottingham Road, Eastwood, NG16 3NP

These support meetings are open to anyone affected by central vision loss, including family, friends and carers. The support group provides a welcoming and compassionate place to learn about the support available, build your confidence, and better understand your own macular disease. It’s also a chance to make new friends who really understand what sight loss is like.

Race Night

Saturday 12 April 2025, 6pm – 11pm, Plessey Centre, 27 Marconi Drive, NG9 1NX

Beeston Rylands Community Association are hosting a fundraising Race Night! Experience the thrill of the race and join them for an unforgettable evening of horse racing. Tickets are £10 and cover a reserved seat, a hot and cold buffet, and a dessert. 5 race bets are also included to start you off. There will be up to 8 races to take part in over the evening. Bets are 50p each and taken before each race, which is shown on the big screen.  There will also be a raffle, and additional prizes whether you win or lose! You can book a table, or request seats together by emailing acemillington@gmail.com.
